Clinical hypnotherapist based in North Berwick, helping people change patterns they understand — but still feel stuck in.

Welcome to

Roxy Russell Hypnotherapy

Meet Roxy Russell

I’m a clinical hypnotherapist based in North Berwick, working with people across East Lothian and online who feel stuck in patterns they already understand, or partially understand, but haven’t been able to change.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, self-aware and have tried talking things through or pushing themselves to “do better”, only to find the same reactions, habits or feelings keep repeating. My role is to help you work directly with automatic patterns that don’t respond easily to conscious effort alone.

My work is practical, collaborative and tailored to the individual. Hypnosis is a focused, deeply relaxed state where we can explore what’s driving a pattern and begin to shift it safely and deliberately. You remain aware and in control throughout.

I’m fully qualified with a Hypnotherapy Practitioner’s Diploma (HPD), a Diploma in Clinical and Advanced Hypnosis (DipCAH) and as a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner (PNLP), having trained in Falkirk with UK Academy Scotland. My training is integrative, drawing on approaches such as Ericksonian hypnosis, solution-focused work, cognitive behavioural principles and NLP. In practice, this means I adapt how I work to you.

I’m registered with the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council and I work within clear ethical and professional boundaries. I don’t diagnose medical or mental health conditions and where hypnotherapy isn’t appropriate, I’ll always say so.

Above all, I aim to offer a calm, thoughtful space where change feels possible. Hypnotherapy isn’t about becoming a different person, it’s about loosening patterns that no longer serve you, so life feels a little easier to live.

Why Hypnotherapy ?

Hypnotherapy works by helping you enter a state of focused attention - similar to becoming absorbed in a book, a film or a daydream. In this state, the mind tends to become quieter and less reactive, making it easier to notice and work with patterns that usually run automatically.

When we’re stressed, anxious or stuck in a habit, the response often happens before we’ve had time to think. Hypnotherapy creates the conditions where those automatic reactions can be explored and adjusted, rather than fought against.

This isn’t about being unconscious or losing control. You remain aware and involved throughout the process, and nothing happens without your cooperation. Hypnosis simply allows us to work at a level where habits, emotional responses and beliefs are formed and maintained - without relying on constant effort or willpower.

What hypnotherapy can help with

If eating habits, motivation, or body image feel hard to shift despite logical goals, hypnotherapy can help support new internal responses around food and activity.

Stress & Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are normal, but when they begin to dominate daily life, hypnotherapy can help explore how your nervous system reacts and support calmer responses to triggers.

Breaking nicotine-linked habits is about changing responses to familiar cues. Hypnotherapy can strengthen your commitment and support healthier reactions to those triggers.

Smoking & Vaping Cessation
Phobias

Persistent fears of specific situations or objects often involve automatic reactions. Hypnotherapy can help you notice those reactions and work with them in new ways.

Pain Management

Chronic pain and recurring discomfort can feel overwhelming. Hypnotherapy doesn’t treat medical conditions directly, but for some people it can support shifts in how sensation and stress are experienced day to day.

General Relaxation

Hypnotherapy can also be used purely for relaxation, helping to calm the body and mind, ease tension, and create a sense of mental space for people who find it difficult to fully unwind.

Hypnotherapy isn’t a quick fix or a medical treatment. If you have any questions, please contact me and we can discuss whether this approach is likely to be helpful for you and what realistic steps might look like.

People come to hypnotherapy for different reasons, but often the underlying issue is a pattern that feels automatic, frustrating or resistant to change - even when you know what you want to do differently.

Other areas where people often seek support

Many clients also find hypnotherapy useful when dealing with stress-linked bodily responses (like IBS), sleep challenges, emotionally charged reactions (such as anger or grief), self-esteem patterns, procrastination, and focus difficulties.

Sessions

Hypnotherapy sessions are personalised to address your unique needs, using techniques to engage the subconscious mind for positive change. In a safe and supportive environment, these session are designed to help you achieve your objectives and improve your overall quality of life.

Sessions are available at the Lighthouse North Berwick, online via video call, or in person at your home if you are in North Berwick.

This one-off session is for people whose priority is to make stopping smoking or vaping a lasting change. It includes a complimentary follow-up if it's needed. £180 (approx. 90-120 min)

Pre-Consultation Discussion

Before booking, I offer a free 20-minute pre-consultation call where we can talk about what you are experiencing, answer any questions you have about how hypnotherapy works and decide together whether this approach is likely to be helpful for you.

General Relaxation

These session are designed for people who want the experience of hypnosis specifically for relaxation and stress relief, without additional therapeutic work. A full initial session is still required before booking this as a one-off or repeat relaxation session. £50 (approx. 50 min)

Subsequent Hypnotherapy Session

After the initial session, we continue where we left off - reviewing progress and working with whatever arises next. Most of this time will include hypnotherapy alongside reflection and discussion. £70 (approx. 60 min)

Useful to know

Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical or mental health care. If you have significant physical or psychological health concerns, it’s important to consult your GP or other health professional. Hypnotherapy may complement other support where appropriate.

Let's work together

I work primarily one-to-one with clients, but hypnotherapy doesn't have to be limited to individual sessions. I'm also open to working with groups and collaborating with others where a focused, practical approach to change and relaxation would be useful.

Group hypnotherapy offers a shared, supportive way to explore rest, reflection and inner awareness. These sessions are structures and guided, with a focus on common themes rather than individual issues, making them suitable for community settings, events and collaborative work.

Group sessions may include:

  • Rest and deep relaxation - focused on calming the nervous system, releasing physical tension and practising deep rest in a supportive, shared environment.

  • Sleep support for tired or sleep-deprived parents: designed to help parents settle their minds and bodies, particularly when sleep is disrupted or limited. These sessions focus on rest, regulation and recovery - not problem solving or parenting advice.

  • Nature-based hypnotherapy: held outdoors or inspired by natural settings, these sessions invite a slower pace of attention, helping participants reconnect with their environment and gently notice what's often overlooked - including the natural world and their own internal responses.

  • Inner advisor journeys: structured, guides experiences that help participants access their own perspectives, values and inner resources. These sessions are reflective rather than therapeutic, offering space for insight without personal disclosure.

  • Confidence and motivation: Focused on strengthening confidence, clarity and motivation around change.

Group sessions are experimental and educational rather than therapeutic and they don't involve personal disclosure or individualised treatment.

Group work may be suitable for: community groups, wellbeing or stress-reduction sessions, workplace or organisational settings, short-term workshops or themed events. If you’re interested in hosting a group session, I’m happy to discuss what might be appropriate for your setting and audience.

Group Sessions
Collaborations

I’m open to co-creating group sessions, workshops, retreats, and immersive experiences within your existing spaces and events. Group sessions can be created around specific themes or needs, allowing each experience to be shaped intentionally for the event and the people in the room.

If you’d like to explore a potential collaboration, please get in touch !
